Wake Up Calls

Wake Up Calls

I’ve been seeing 11:11 (eleven minutes after eleven) pop up on Facebook and other sites.  The number 11 is considered a Master/Power number representing visionary ideals, intuition, revelation, artistic and inventive genius. Being a sacred number it also can carry a balance of female/male energies and properties.

Be that as it may, when I saw it on FB, it reminded me of an experience I had back in the 80’s with the time, 7:11.  It started one morning when I was awakened around 5 a.m. I looked around and saw nothing out of the ordinary. My husband was sleeping soundly by my side so I dropped back into a deep slumber. Next thing I knew I felt something like a gentle push on my shoulder and I sat up sharply, wondering who had touched me. I could hear my husband at the other end of the house rattling around in the kitchen. I looked at the clock and it read 7:11.

Next morning I was awakened out of deep sleep about 4 a.m. and again checked to see that my husband was asleep and before long I too had dozed off.  Again, I was awakened sharply and sat up in bed a little startled, glancing at the clock that read 7:11. (No, there was no alarm set, LOL)  This got my attention and I said, “Lord is that you?”

Into my mind came the response, “Look up the numbers seven and eleven.”

I shared earlier some of the Google references to numbers, but at the time this happened to me, my only computer experience was a little basic programming and playing a game called the Sands of Egypt on my Apple III. So after checking the numbers in Webster’s dictionary, I came away with the sense that I needed to “pay attention and live as a believer (in God), redeeming the time.” I then remembered a dream just prior to my awakening in which I was running very fast down ladders only to meet another ladder that I had to climb up. I could barely lift one heavy foot after another to get up the ladders. It was a laborious, draining exercise and I knew intuitively what the message was. I needed to get in shape physically and spiritually in order to endure the race that was ahead of me. I began a physical work-out program at home along with a research study of religions and sects.  I was curious how believers in God had been separated by differing beliefs and rules established by these religions. This turned out to be my first attempt at writing and I arranged my findings into a manuscript complete with Bibliography and mailed it to myself in lieu of a copyright. I plan to post some of the more provocative and prophetic findings on my website from time to time.

It was not long before circumstances changed in our comfortable, carefree lives.  We found ourselves struggling to survive a down-turn in the oil business that wiped out many of our friends financially. We managed to hold onto our newly built  home and property.

Before I leave the subject of wake up calls,  I want to share another earlier episode involving being awakened and given a timely message. This occurred a few years earlier when we were safely ensconced in our Kingwood home enjoying membership in a nearby Methodist church. I was awakened very early one morning around 3 o’clock. Suddenly, there I was; wide awake as if someone had touched me. When nothing seemed amiss, I finally slid back under the covers and went to sleep.

The next morning the same thing happened around 3 a.m. but this time I got out of bed and went to the den, taking a writing tablet and pen. There was something going through my mind repeatedly that seemed like a lecture about different types of prayer. I filled several pages of notes and scriptures. I could tell it was designed to be delivered to an audience.

I was a full time home maker for three teenage boys and my husband and happy as a lark.  I had spent a year teaching a Sunday school class for adolescents. I was not comfortable speaking before an audience but here I had received what looked to me like several discussions about prayer. So, I promised God if I was ever asked to talk about prayer that I would faithfully share what I had received. It was about two months later that my pastor at church came to me and told me he wanted to hold a two day workshop on prayer for women. I was not surprised when he asked me to lead the teaching and plan the event.

God is so smart and even sneaky at times. He knew I would decline a request out of the blue to lead such a workshop.  With no experience in public speaking I would have no confidence in my ability to handle such an obligation.  But I had agreed in advance to do it so I had no choice but to accept the task.

I am happy to report that the workshop was a great success and I think my high school class in Debate had given me a small area of experience. Of course I must give most of the credit to Spirit in delivering the information that had been downloaded and recorded in my tablet in the wee hours of the morning months before.

Later my journey would lead me to become a reporter, editor and finally publisher of a weekly newspaper and speaking before audiences became opportunities instead of challenges.  I did learn to pay attention to “wake up calls” and I urge you to do likewise.
